Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga said Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi are political laggards and underachievers whose tenures as governors of Kaduna, Anambra and Rivers respectively cannot match President Bola Tinubu’s achievements in two years.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy made the assertion in an X post on Monday morning.
This comes after El-Rufai claimed in a Sunday interview on Channels Television that Tinubu has no clear path to reelection in 2027 despite incumbency advantages.
El-Rufai said, “I have done the maths and the analysis, and he has no pathway to win. He will be, at best, third. He can think that he has the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), money, the police, and the army, but he should invite former President Goodluck Jonathan for a chat and ask him if he didn’t have all of this in 2015, yet we kicked him out. Those who say Tinubu has never lost an election should wait.”
Quoting a video of El-Rufai’s interview, Onanuga described the ex-Kaduna governor and his ilk in the opposition coalition as “power hungry politicians” who have become politically displaced and irrelevant.
He highlighted Tinubu’s two-year achievements that have endeared him to Nigerians.

Onanuga said, “Nasir El-Rufai confesses here that four years is not enough for a political office holder to make ‘meaningful changes’. Yet he is at the forefront of the gang of political desperados plotting President Tinubu’s ouster, just two years into his tenure. What a contradiction!
“In contrast to the political laggards and underachievers who were once governors in Anambra, Rivers and Kaduna, President Tinubu and his team have implemented meaningful changes in our country over the past two years, positioning us on the path of prosperity.
“The positive indicators are all there for the world to see—for example, increased foreign reserves, the highest in 44 months. Phenomenal wealth creation in the stock market has seen ASI skyrocket from 53,000 points to over 140,000 points. Over N26 trillion in additional wealth has been created in the market under Tinubu’s watch.
“The exchange rate has been harmonised, and arbitrage eliminated. Investment inflow has increased. The inflation rate has decreased in four successive months. GDP has grown by N103.5 trillion in two years. And it is still growing. Balance of payment surplus is being recorded quarter after quarter. Indigent students are being supported by a revolutionary loan policy, using NELFUND as the vehicle. Vulnerable Nigerians are receiving cash from the Humanitarian Ministry.
“National revenue has increased phenomenally, and the record will be broken again this year and even next year when the revolutionary tax reform is implemented. States and local councils are receiving more money from the centre, enabling them to embark on capital projects, creating more jobs. The governors said they have never had it so good.
“Yet, these power-hungry politicians want the President, who has achieved so much, to be removed, all because they have become politically displaced and irrelevant.
“May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people.”
