There was a heavy security presence on Monday at the Kaduna State High Court as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai appeared for the continuation of his trial.

El-Rufai is being tried by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) alongside one Amadu Sule over allegations bordering on abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

However, shortly before entering the courtroom, the former governor was overheard discussing the forthcoming convention of the African Democratic Congress with an associate.

El-Rufai was overheard asking an associate, “So tomorrow is our convention, right?” he asked, to which the associate responded, “God willing,” indicating his continued engagement in political activities despite the ongoing trial.

It was observed that security around the court premises was beefed up, with operatives stationed at strategic points to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, El-Rufai is also facing a separate 10-count charge before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, involving alleged abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud said to involve ₦579.6 million and $1.1 million. He will appear in court on Tuesday, April 14, for a ruling on his bail application before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa.
