Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Wednesday morning for the continuation of his bail application hearing.

El-Rufai was driven to the court premises around 9:00 a.m. and alighted from his vehicle at 9:05 a.m., attracting the attention of security personnel and a small number of onlookers.

The hearing follows Tuesday’s session, which was stalled after the defence filed a motion seeking the recusal of Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa over alleged bias and a pending petition. The defence later withdrew the motion, creating procedural twists that delayed the proceedings.

The prosecution filed a counter-affidavit opposing the bail request, giving the defence limited time to respond before the matter was adjourned. Justice Aikawa subsequently scheduled the continuation of the hearing for Wednesday.

Security was tight at the court, with personnel positioned strategically to monitor movements, and journalists, including were barred from entering the courtroom.

The bail application marks a key moment in the legal proceedings surrounding El-Rufai, as both the defence and prosecution continue to present their arguments amid heightened public attention.

Observers say the developments reflect the complex legal strategies employed in high-profile political cases, with procedural manoeuvres affecting the pace of the trial.
