Winner of the Turkish Airlines Lagos Golf Competition Karin Ekpe, on Thursday, said representing Nigeria at the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup will be one of the greatest achievements of her golfing career.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ekpe, Chief Executive Officer of Gottgabe Services International, emerged overall winner of the amateur competition with an impressive 41 points.

The highly competitive tournament was held at the golf section of Ikoyi Club in Lagos.

With her victory in the Lagos edition, Ekpe will join the yet-to-be-determined Abuja winner to represent Nigeria at the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup in Istanbul.

Speaking with NAN on Thursday, Ekpe said she never imagined such a feat, inspite of the significant effort she had put into her golfing career.

“I am so honoured to have competed and played; It’s beyond my imagination how it turned out.

“When we started, it wasn’t easy because we began under the hot sun. But I stayed focused.

“I told myself, ‘Just focus and play your game; I stayed relaxed and just played,” she said

On her choice of the sport, Ekpe said golf was not her first game as she had started as a tennis player before being introduced to golf.

“As I kept playing, I developed a passion for it; it’s the only game I play these days.

“Golf keeps you focused and on your toes.

“There’s always this check and balance in the game; It requires integrity, even in your emotions,” she said

According to her, the victory will remain a cherished memory.

“I still can’t believe I won this competition; That I am a winner today beats my imagination, and I am so excited.

“I pray to represent Lagos and Nigeria very well at the tournament in November in Türkiye,” she said.

NAN reports that Ekpe’s victory in the 2026 edition sets a record, as she becomes the second female to win the competition in consecutive years.
