William Troost-Ekong, former captain of the Super Eagles, has officially signed with Al Ahli SC, committing to the Qatari club until June 2027. The seasoned 32-year-old central defender joins from Al-Kholood, where he kicked off the season alongside Norbert Gyömber, and takes the place of Matej Mitrovic, who suffered a severe injury that ended his season prematurely.

The signing of Troost-Ekong aligns with Al Ahli’s strategic objective of enhancing their defensive lineup, a critical endeavor as they prepare for a demanding season. The club expects him to fulfill a leadership role in the Qatar Stars League, Amir Cup, and particularly in the AFC Champions League round of 16, where they aim for strong performances. This marks an exciting new chapter in Troost-Ekong’s career, adding to his rich history of playing internationally in Europe and the Middle East, following stints in clubs like Udinese, Salernitana, and PAOK Thessaloniki.
