Ekiti speaker, Afuye dies at 66

Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye, has passed on at the age of 66.

Afuye, who represented Ikere constituency 1, died   after a brief illness.

A member of the House who confirmed Afuye’s death, said he was rushed to hospital, yesterday, after developing complications over undisclosed ailment, but couldn’t make it through.

“He died after attempts by medical doctors to save his life failed.”

Another source said the lawmaker died of cardiac arrest.

Afuye was at the inauguration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, on Sunday, and was said to have also attended plenary on Tuesday before the sudden turn of events yesterday.

“Funminiyi Afuye was at the House of Assembly yesterday(Tuesday), so his death is devastating to us. It is a rude shock.We learnt he developed sudden complications this morning and was rushed to the hospital where he died,” said the source.
