Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu, said the command has declared war against kidnappers and armed robbers in the state:
“We are more than ready in chasing away criminals. I have mapped out strategies that all the black spots will be raided to make sure that the state is free from hoodlums.
“I also ordered the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS), divisional police officers abd area commanders to reducible efforts in crime fighting. They should embark on massive raids of suspected criminal hideouts and black spots.
“I have warned my officers to shun corruption. They should establish good relationship with members of the public. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has his vision on community policing. Policemen and officers should maintain good relationship with the public to enable them give them useful information on criminals.
“We are working with human rights activists in accordance with the law not to victimise suspects. Suspects would not be detained beyond necessary because bail is free. The police is your friend.”
The CP urged traditional rulers, community leaders, students, elder statesmen and market women to render assistance and cooperation for peace to reign: “My door is open so that we can have good relationship.” He said the command appreciated members of the public “who have been assisting us in sharing information. I urge them not to relent.
“We also appreciate the state government for its assistance and seek more operational vehicles for use at the strategic areas to chase criminals away from the state.”
