Ekiti: Gunmen attack varsity, students flee hostels

Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti

Panic broke out late Monday night after gunmen attacked off-campus hostels of Ekiti State University in Ado-Ekiti, forcing students to flee for safety.

Eyewitnesses said the armed attackers moved from one hostel to another, robbing students of valuables, including mobile phones, laptops, and cash.

A student, who confirmed the incident via X, said the attacks have become frequent in the area, raising concerns among residents and students preparing for examinations.

In the post, the student wrote, “Armed men are attacking students in their hostels in EKSU at midnight!!!!!”
The student added, “We are supposed to be reading for our exams! It has been going on for three days now!!! They are also robbing us. Please help us repost.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, said a suspect has been arrested and is currently under investigation.

He added that security measures have been strengthened to prevent a recurrence, while students have called on authorities to intensify patrols and improve safety around the university community.
