From Taiwo Oluwadare, Ibadan
Ekiti State-born philanthropist, Dr Ademola Tosin Ojo (DATO), has commiserated with the Ekiti State Government, farmers and residents affected by the recent flooding in parts of Ado-Ekiti, urging the government to take urgent steps to prevent further losses.
The flooding, which followed heavy rainfall, affected several communities, businesses and agricultural investments, leaving residents and farmers to count their losses.
DATO, while describing the development as unfortunate, expressed particular concern over the damage reportedly suffered by farmers whose crops and other agricultural investments were destroyed by the floodwaters. He sympathised with Governor Biodun Oyebanji, affected farmers and residents, and prayed for strength and comfort for those who suffered losses.
DATO also called for urgent intervention by the state government and other relevant authorities, particularly in flood-prone areas, through improved drainage systems, proper environmental planning and sustainable flood-management measures.
He stressed that flood disasters should not only be addressed after they occur, but should also be tackled through preventive infrastructure and effective environmental planning capable of reducing the risks of future flooding. While urging affected farmers not to lose hope, DATO reaffirmed his commitment to their welfare and encouraged them to participate in his Farmers Summit scheduled for October 22, 2026.
According to him, the summit is designed to bring farmers and other agricultural stakeholders together to discuss opportunities, exchange ideas and explore practical measures for improving agricultural productivity and the welfare of farmers.
He urged farmers across Ekiti State to register for the programme, noting that participation is free.
DATO reiterated his commitment to initiatives aimed at strengthening agriculture, supporting farmers and contributing to the socio-economic development of Ekiti State.
