Former High Commissioner to Canada, Amb. Dare Bejide, has emerged the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Bejide was declared the winner after he defeated four other contestants including former Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, Barr. Femi Adegbite, and Apostle David Adesua, in the Thursday, November 6 primary election held across the 177 wards and 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

While Bejide garnered 15,490 votes, Olusola-Eleka scored 12,350 votes securing the second position. Also,
Adegbite scored 9,141 votes, Fayose got 2,854, and Adesua polled 135 votes, securing third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The Chairman of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, who announced the results at the collation center in Ado-Ekiti, capital of the state, in the presence of national and state officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and newsmen, disclosed that results from Ilejemeje and Oye Local Government Areas were stepped down, while that of Emure Local Government was cancelled over alleged electoral irregularities.

Akwashiki praised party members and stakeholders across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state for their impressive turnout and orderly conduct during the accreditation and voting processes.

She, however, condemned the actions of some individuals who attempted to disrupt proceedings at the collation center, maintaining that the interest of the party supercedes the interest of any
individual, hence members should embrace unity and shun any act or activity capable of tarnishing the image of the party.

She further advised any aggrieved aspirant to channel their complaints to the party’s Appeal Committee, which has been constituted to review and address petitions arising from the primary election.

Akwashiki also commended INEC officials, security agencies, and members of the press for their cooperation and professional conduct throughout the exercise.

Other members of the election committee are, Barr. Ikechukwu Nwankwo(Secretary), Mrs Lauretta Onochie(Member) and Prof. Bayo Ayorinde(Member)

Members of the national team who were also present for the election are Prince Chinedu Idigo (National Organising Secretary) and Prince Alpha Emeka ( leader of the advance team).
