From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
Kano State Government said it was in possession of a credible intelligence of a plot by some individuals to create confusion and instigate a breakdown of law and order in the state during the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) celebrations.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, however, assured that the government was on top of the situation and was committed to a peaceful celebration of the religious occasion in the state.
The statement explained that in view of the situation and after due consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other key stakeholders, the government has come up with a few arrangements to guarantee a peaceful celebration.
Among the arrangements is that the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) would be conducted by His Highness, Sarkin Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, terminating at Kofar Fatalwa of the Kano Emir’s Palace.

The statement added that the Hawan Nasarawa would take place in a modified form and not on a horseback while indicating that the Hawan Daushe has been suspended for now and would be observed during subsequent Sallah celebrations.
The statement equally explained that the Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi have also been suspended in the best interest of public peace and safety.
“Accordingly, all security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance, ensure strict compliance with these directives and take all necessary lawful measures to prevent any breach of peace before, during and after the festive period.”
The government urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperative with the security agencies, praying them to avoid spreading of unverified information and to peacefully go about their normal activities throughout the Sallah period and beyond.
The statement appreciated the continued dedication and professionalism of security agencies in ensuring the safety and stability of the state, while reassuring the public of its commitment to peaceful and hitch-free celebrations.
