EFCC returns recovered N3.9bn to NNPCL

From Sola Ojo, Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over nearly N4 billion recovered from fraudulent activities to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

At a brief ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, EFCC Secretary Mohammed Hammajoda, representing Chairman Ola Olukoyede, presented a cheque of N3.94 billion to NNPCL officials.

He said the recovery was the outcome of “diligent investigation and professional uncovering” of fraud linked to some actors within the national oil company.

He added that the development reinforced ongoing efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Hammajoda reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to tackle economic and financial crimes, noting that personnel of the agency continue to make sacrifices in the line of duty.

He stressed that the EFCC remains committed to safeguarding public resources for the benefit of Nigerians.

Receiving the funds, NNPCL’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, described the recovery as a milestone.

He noted improved collaboration between the oil company and anti-graft authorities.

“The development reflects efforts within NNPCL to strengthen transparency and correct systemic lapses,” he stressed.
