EFCC nabs 15 suspects over radioactive solid minerals in Kaduna

From Sola Ojo, Abuja

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 15 male suspects for their alleged involvement in the illegal handling and transportation of radioactive solid minerals.

Radioactive solid minerals are used for several scientific, medical, industrial and energy purposes because they release radiation and energy.

Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Dele Oyewale, said on Tuesday that the suspects were intercepted on Sunday, March 8, 2026, along the Suleja–Maji Road in Niger State while transporting the suspected minerals in three trucks to various locations across the country for yet-to-be-disclosed purposes.

According to him, the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the EFCC Kaduna Zonal Directorate during the operation.

Oyewale said the suspects are currently undergoing further investigation at the commission’s Kaduna office.

He added that they would be brought before court once investigations are complete.
