EFCC denies Benin boys chased away operatives

EFCC-office

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said a social media report claiming its operatives were chased away during an operation in Benin City, Edo is fake news.

The commission issued the clarification in a Facebook post on Friday.

An X user, The Benin Blogger, had posted that an early morning raid by EFCC at Airport Road, Benin City was resisted by “some boys”.

The blogger also said the boys chased away the operatives.

Reacting, the anti-graft commission urged the public to treat it as “fake news”.

Meanwhile, EFCC has arrested businessman and former Chairman of the defunct Skye Bank Plc, Tunde Ayeni over an alleged multi-billion naira fraud.

Ayeni was reportedly picked up in Abuja on Thursday and is currently in EFCC custody as investigations continue.

The anti-graft agency is probing the alleged diversion and misappropriation of funds estimated at N36.5 billion and $30 million, said to have been obtained from Polaris Bank Plc through companies linked to him.
