The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals for alleged mutilation of the Nigerian currency.

The suspects, identified as Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad and Bashir Musa, were apprehended following the circulation of a viral video on social media in which they were seen using a N500 note to clean mucus from their noses.

According to the EFCC, the video attracted public attention and prompted the Commission to trace the individuals involved.

The trio was subsequently arrested in the Maiduguri metropolis.

Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale confirmed on Thursday that they were currently being held at the EFCC detention facility in Maiduguri, where investigations are ongoing.

He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
