Edun recovering well, says Dare, denies stroke rumours, evacuation abroad

Edun recovering well, says Dare, insists rumours of stroke, evacuation abroad false

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Contrary to social media rumours since Sunday claiming that Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, suffered a stroke and was evacuated abroad, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, confirms he is currently in Abuja and recuperating.

He said he personally spoke with Edun and reassured the public of his improving health. Posting on his verified X handle @SundayDareSD, Dare said: “Moments ago I got off the phone with Nigeria’s Finance Minister/Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, in Abuja. Over a bowl of Amala, we spoke for a few minutes with assurances he was getting better. I wished him the best of health.”

This light-hearted confirmation from Dare comes amid growing online speculation that triggered widespread misinformation through the weekend. Presidency sources had earlier informed reporters that while Edun was “indisposed”, there was no stroke and no foreign medical trip.

Minister Edun, a key figure in President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, is currently resting at home in Abuja under medical supervision.
