Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has identified education and poverty alleviation as the best solution to the menace of insecurity in the country.

Gumi stated this in a Facebook post on Thursday.

He posted a video detailing how China lifted 88 percent of its population, around 878 million people, out of extreme poverty between 1981 and 2020.

According to the video cited, the Chinese government made poverty elimination a national mission.

Gumi said, “The best way to fight insecurity is through education and poverty alleviation.”

The Kaduna-based cleric has been a vocal commentator on the nation’s security challenges.

He has consistently backed negotiation and dialogue over purely kinetic approaches, insisting that military force alone cannot defeat banditry or guerrilla-style fighters.

Gumi has also proposed amnesty and rehabilitation for repentant bandits, similar to past pardons for coup plotters or Niger Delta militants.
