The Edo State Sports Commission, with heavy heart commiserates with the Kano State government and the people, particularly the Kano State Sports Commission, over the tragic loss of 22 members of the state’s contingent involved in a ghastly road accident while returning from the just concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

At least 22 persons including athletes, officials and sports journalists are among those confirmed dead in the unfortunate road crash at the Dakatsalle Bridge in the Kura Local Government area of Kano State.

The Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, had confirmed the incident and said many other athletes sustained varied degrees of injuries.

In a statement by the Head, Public Relations and Media Department, Edo State Sports Commission, Kehinde Osagiede, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, his board and management are saddened by the unfortunate incident, which claimed the lives of patriotic citizens who were on national assignment.

The Edo State Sports Commission boss described the incident as devastating and a monumental loss to the entire Nigerian sports community.

It is with deep sorrow we extend our condolences to the government of Kano State, Kano State Sports Commission and the National Sports Commission over the tragic incident.

“I can remember some of the diseased individuals were at the same venue with us during the Kickboxing event, cheering their team to victory that night, only to hear that they are no more, a few hours later.

“Our hearts are with the chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, athletes and the people of Kano State. We pray that God accepts the souls of the departed and give their immediate families and friends the fortitude to beat the irreparable loss.”
