The Edo State Police Command said it has launched a full-scale investigation into the alleged brutal attack on popular Edo comedian, Osagie Idieda, popularly known as MC Porkupyne.
In a Saturday statement, the command said the comedian was reportedly attacked by hoodlums while returning from a party in Benin City on October 24 and is said to be receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem said the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those involved, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The command said the CP strongly condemned all forms of violence and unlawful attacks and urged residents to embrace peace and lawful conduct, stressing that acts of violence would not be tolerated in Edo State.
The command assured that the incident would be treated with seriousness and urged anyone with useful information to contact the police through its emergency lines.
Daily Sun earlier reported that presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, condemned the attack in a statement posted on X on Saturday, describing it as politically motivated.
