The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has organised a capacity-building programme for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Drug Free Club in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.
The specialised one-day anti-drug abuse “Train the Trainer” seminar took place at the NDLEA Edo State Command Headquarters in Benin City on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
The delegation was received by the NDLEA Edo State Commander, Commander of Narcotics Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, who said the event was aimed at equipping corps members with knowledge and skills to lead drug abuse prevention efforts in their communities. Ofoyeju officially decorated the President of the Club, Pharmacist Patience Ichin, as a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) partner. The club members were also presented with copies of the NDLEA Edo State Command magazine as a resource for their advocacy work.
During the training, Commander Ofoyeju delivered a lecture titled “Drug Use Among Youth: A Global Perspective,” highlighting the prevalence and impact of drug abuse on young people worldwide.
The Head of Counselling, Treatment and Rehabilitation for the command, Deputy Commander of Narcotics Hope Aigbogun, addressed participants on the “Indispensable Role of NYSC Drug Free Club Members in Drug Abuse Prevention,” emphasising their strategic position as peer educators and community change agents.
The training session also featured a drug exhibition, where participants were exposed to various substances and their harmful effects, reinforcing the dangers of drug abuse.
The training initiative underscores the collaborative effort between the NYSC Drug Free Club and NDLEA in fostering a drug-free society.
