Sixteen of the 18 passengers, who were kidnapped while travelling in one of the recently launched New Edo Line Transport Service buses, have been rescued.

The 18 passengers were abducted on Friday at 16.30 hours on the Benin-Auchi-Lokoja Road.

The victims, said to be Abuja-bound passengers, were reportedly forced into the bush by their abductors before men of Nigerian Police Force arrived.

A viral video from the scene of the incident showed long queues of vehicles parked on both sides of the express road.

Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Iyamu, who confirmed the incident, said 16 of the victims have been rescued so far.

He said the police have intensified search and rescue operation in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters to ensure the release of the other passengers.
