Edo HOS Cup gets huge boost

The maiden edition of Edo State Head of Service football tournament for civil and public servants in the state gets November 15 commencement day with public and private persons given  it their total supports.

Conducting the draw ceremony yesterday at the press Centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City, head of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), Mr. Victor Edokpiaye commended the initiator of the tournament, Dr. Barrister Anthony Okungbowa for his laudable ideas and achievements in the sector.

He maintained that all machinery for a hitch free competition had been put in place, stressing that the MOC will not put the state to shame.  

He, however, called on the 18 participating teams to wear the suit of discipline as the MOC will not hesitate to hammer any team not playing to the rules of the game.

“I want to use this opportunity to welcome our able HOS, Dr. Barrister Anthony Okungbowa, Edo State Sports Commission Chairman, Olympian Yussuf Alli, all Permanent Secretaries present and all the participating teams.  

“Today is a unique day in the annals of Edo Civil Service and Public servants in the state, the aims of this HOS football competition is to forster unity, understanding, and keep body and soul in functional. We have put all logistics in place for a hitch free competition, so I urged you all to imbibe spirit of Sportsmanship  during the competition.”

The State Sports Commission chairman, Yussuf Alli also applauded  the HOS for his magnificent strives and ideas in the Civil Service. He added that HOS football competition will no small way contribute to the overall development of the state Vis- avis unity, team work among others.

“This a great innovation into the Civil Service in Edo State. We in the Sports Commission are very elated we will do our very best to support the Programme. Our Stuff needs something like this for fitness so that the Brian can do very well in the course of executing their official jobs.”

In his remarks, the Head of Service Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, said: “I’m highly elated to witness this draw after series of trials to get this competition done in the past two years. 

“I want to thank everyone for the honour done me. Today it is important to tell us that Edo State Civil and public Service is the best organised in the country. Today, Edo State public service is the best and digitalize public Service Nigeria. As I speak to you, His Excellency, Mr. Governor is doing a lot beside the work you are doing to also enjoy a measure out of the work you have a place to win, and that is why the governor is building for us something somewhere for us to cool.off after a hard day’s work.”

“This tournament is aimed at having health competition among us. It is also intended that we imbibe in the spirit.of synergy among ourselves, and that is important for us. In government if we do not have synergy and cooperation be sure that at the end government efforts would have been a waste. So we must strengthen the bond that keep.us together for a better results.”

Meanwhile, 18 Clubs registered for the tournament is basically for Civil and Public Servants. As the competition begs on Wednesday November 15, 2023 in  Benin-City, the first game will.be between College of Agriculture vs Oil and Gas ministry.

Venue for the preliminaries is Wester Boys High School Mini stadia. While the finals will be take place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Also a lot of sports loving individuals, groups, private sectors have thrown their weight behind the competition.
