The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Edo State chapter, on Monday, December 29, inaugurated its Edo State Leadership Team, marking a significant milestone in consolidating the party’s presence in Edo State and across the South-South Zone, and positioning it as a credible opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking at the event, Chief Oyegun described the inauguration as a clear signal of the ADC’s readiness to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative.
“Nigeria has degenerated to hunger and deprivation, hence the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has stepped in on a rescue mission”, Oyegun said.
He also confirmed that the ADC Edo state coalition leadership team was constituted to help enrich the existing state to form a formidable structure that will make sure that the party takes over come 2027 and beyond.
Oyegun further added that ADC is the strongest and fastest-growing party in Nigeria today, welcomed by all citizens in their need for change.
He emphasised that we must recognise who we are and what we are bringing to the table to make a difference to Nigerians.
“Today, as we unveil the strategic members of the leadership team of this party in the state, we are proving to Nigerians and the political elite that, ADC is prepared to take responsibility and rescue Nigerians from abject poverty and unrealistic policies,” Oyegun said.
He stressed that democracy can only thrive where there is a viable alternative, adding that the ADC is committed to giving the people of Edo State and Nigeria the opportunity to freely choose their leaders.
“For democracy to exist, there must be a credible alternative. And for that alternative to be meaningful, the people must decide. We are here to create that alternative for the people of Edo State,” he added.
Chief Oyegun further outlined the expectations for the newly inaugurated transition leadership team, emphasising strict adherence to the ADC’s Constitution and operational guidelines.
He noted that all leadership positions must respect internal party procedures and charged the new leadership to abide by the party’s constitution in all dealings.
According to him, the leadership team’s task is to build harmony, join forces with the state’s existing structure, headed by the state chairman, Kennedy Odion and ensure a strong sense of belonging amongst all members.

On the part of the national Chief Whip, Festus Igbinoba, he commended ADC Edo State leaders for their commitment to the party and urged all members to support the national leadership in strengthening party’s structures across the state.
He further urged party members in the state to remain steadfast and not allow past political experiences to negatively influence their values or judgment.
Igbinoba stressed that the ADC operates transparent and accountable internal processes, which distinguish the party from others in the political space.
Sen.Yisa Braimoh, one of the newly inaugurated leaders, described the ADC as the only credible opposition party in Nigeria, expressing confidence in the party’s future.
“By 2027, ADC will prove to Nigerians that we are the party capable of restoring the country to a standard that allows it to compete favourably with other nations,” he said.
Speaking also, the South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary, Mabel Oboh, maintained that the ADC’s mission in Edo State, the South-South Zone, and Nigeria as a whole, goes beyond politics and represents a national rescue mission.
“Our objective is to give ordinary Nigerians a genuine platform to participate meaningfully in governance. ADC Edo State has a critical role to play in this mission,” Oboh said.
She added, “ADC is the hope of ordinary Nigerians. Our processes are open, transparent, and designed to include every stakeholder.”
“ADC will rise, unite Nigerians to defeat the evil regime and enthrone democracy in Nigeria. ADC must be rooted as a party that is ready to do things differently from other political parties.
For the ADC Edo State Chairman, Hon. Kennedy Odion, he described the inauguration as a historic milestone in the state’s political history, noting that, Edo State had suffered from a lack of effective and people-centred policies for decades.
He welcomed the leadership team to work with the existing state structure, stating that this will no doubt form a stronger formidable political force in the state.
He praised the inclusion of coalition members into the ADC fold, describing it as a strategic move to strengthen democracy and broaden political participation in the state.
