Residents of Trade Fair/Ogbe-Ibuya community in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State have mounted pressure on the Catholic priest of St. Francis, Ekehuan Road Benin, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan, to contest the 2024 governorship election, saying that he has what it takes to right the wrongs in the state.
They made the call when he (Obinyan), visited them at one of the relaxation joints in Benin City.
Spokesperson for the youths, Mr. Morris Nduka, said that Fr. Obinyan coming to visit them where they are watching the game of soccer, is a demonstration of how he is to run an inclusive government, bridging the gap between the old and the young.
“Very Rev Fr. Dr. Andrew Obinyan, a respected and admirable clergyman, took the Goodnews to Youth of Trade Fair/Ogbe-Ibuya community, Ekehuan Road, in a popular beer parlour; a joint where the youth hang out to relax and watch soccer, as a demonstration his commitment to engaging with diverse segments of community.
“Fr. Obinyan sought to bridge the gap between the church and the community youth”, Nduka said.
He commended Fr. Obinyan for identifying with them, opening doors of academic opportunities that may have remained closed.
Nduka remarked that beyond financial support, Fr. Obinyan has given scholarships and facilitated admissions for numerous students, uplifting widows, giving pipe borne water, and payment of medical bills for the needy in the community.
Addressing the youth, Rev. Fr. Obinyan said his visit was necessitated by his unending desire to understand the concerns and aspirations of the youth; fostering a dialogue that transcends the boundaries of the church.
During his interactions with the youth of the community, Fr. Obinyan articulated his vision for the Nigerian youth and presented a compelling case for leadership that could positively impact lives by a unique blend of pastoral and political acumen.
Fr. Obinyan’s reassured them that, he will anchore on God in dispensing heavenly and material blessings adding that his slogan speaks: “One with God plus the people”
Recall that several youth and students groups and well-meaning Edo people have been beckoning on Fr. Andrew Aigbe Obinyan,from Ubiaja, to run as Governor in Edo 2024.
