Piqued by insecurity, poverty, and social injustice ravaging Nigeria and the African continent, the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union (AU-ECOSOCC), on Wednesday, put on its thinking cap to arrest the situations.
ECOSOCC will also extend its research on how to de-market radicalisation, victimisation amongst young people and promote healthy living.
Chairperson, Social Affairs and Health Cluster of AU ECOSOCC, Dr. Tunji Asaolu, who disclosed this in Abuja at a one-day consultative meeting of the social affairs and health(Cluster Committee), insisted that the meeting will increase awareness among participants of existing committees and mechanisms designed to engage young people in preventing violent extremism and reducing the recourse to violence, so that they would have capacity to respond when levels of conflict and violence increase.

Asaolu, who is Nigeria’s representative added that, “There will be a work plan, recommendations and resolutions on the engagement of Civil Society Organisations (NGOs) with the department of social affairs in AUC and other organs and institutions working on issues of health and social issues in Africa.
He assured that meeting will also “Provide an opportunity for dialogue between ECOSOCC Social Affairs Cluster and experts, allowing them to seek a better understanding of those at risk particularly the youth and children as a result of social issues. ”
On how far the committee will go with its findings, Deputy Presiding Officer, South African Union, ECOSOCC, Patson Malisa, hinted on the committees’ plan to engage heads of states to comprehensively implementing its outcome to give Africa a face-lift.
