From Chijioke Agwu, Abakaliki
Ebubeagu security operatives have been accused of destroying billboards belonging to the opposition political parties in Ebonyi state.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), made the accusation in a statement in Abakaliki.
The opposition party alleged that the operatives of Ebubeagu were being used by the ruling APC to attack and destroy billboards belonging to it’s Governorship candidate, Prof. Ben Odoh , across the state.
Charles Otu, the Special Assistant (SA) to Professor Ben Odoh, in the statement said the latest attack on Odoh’s billboards occurred at Ugwulangwu and Okposi communities in Ohaozara local government area of the state.
He explained that the attack came barely two weeks after the party’s beautiful billboards were equally attacked and vandalized in Abakaliki, the state capital.
He called on security agencies to quickly investigate the attacks and bring perpetrators to book.
“Barely two weeks after the destruction of billboards belonging to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates for the 2023 elections, Professor Benard Ifeanyi Odoh and Dr. Nkata Nwani Chukwu in the Abakaliki urban metropolis, Ebonyi State government’s armed militia who are disguising as members of the Ebubeagu security outfit, at about 7:30 P.M yesterday, Monday, September 5th, 2022 launched fresh attacks on APGA billboards in Okposi and Ugwulangwu communities in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
“We in the Odoh/Nkata Governorship Consultation train once again condemn these heinous attacks on our campaign materials and the continued threats which the Ebubeagu militia has posed to not only our members but to the generality of the peaceful and harmonious existence of our dear State.
“We once again beckon on the various security agencies to investigate this particular attacks on our campaign billboards just like we await their findings on the ones destroyed penultimate week in the Abakaliki metropolis. We have not yet been informed of any arrests made so far despite our petitions to the various security agencies” he said
When contacted, Special Security Consultant to the state government, Stanley Okoro-emegha, said Ebubeagu was not responsible for the attacks.
He explained that the opposition party violated state laws on outdoor advertisement.
He said “mounting of campaign posters or any other material without authorization from the state capital Territory Board and other relevant authorities is a practical demonstration of disobedience to the state government law on outdoor advertisement”.
“Go to other states like Anambra and see how much the Government is making through outdoor advertisement. Ebonyi state is very lenient on some of these things and yet people cannot respect themselves”.
“For your information no political parties be it APC, PDP, AGPA etc will violate the law on outdoor advertisement and go scout free”.
“When a political party wants to govern the good people through deceptive tendencies, even without muting a word, the people can easily decipher the truth. Next time they should try to be creative in their bogus allegations”.
