EBSIEC sets deadline for party primaries in Ebonyi

From Uchenna Inya, Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) has set a deadline from 4th December 2025 to 3rd January 2026 for political parties in the state to conduct their primaries, ahead of the local government and councillorship elections scheduled for 22nd August 2026.

Chairman of the Commission, Enyi Patrick, disclosed this in Abakaliki, the state capital.

He stated that within the three-month period, each political party is expected to conduct its primaries on any chosen date, provided that such date, venue, and time are duly communicated to the commission in advance, to enable designated officials to monitor the exercise in accordance with the law.

He explained that the collection of EBSIEC Form 2, required for the submission of the list of nominated candidates after the primaries, is still ongoing at the headquarters of the commission in the state capital.

“Political parties are free to visit the office to collect the form on or before the date of their primaries,” he said.

Enyi urged all political parties to take advantage of the sufficient time provided for internal activities to conclude their primaries, including the resolution of any disputes, before 3rd February 2026, which is the final date for submitting nominated candidates to the commission as indicated in the election timetable.
