The Ebonyi State University (EBSU), has withdrawn 72 students in the department of Medical Laboratory Science over academic poor performance.

The list of the students who were withdrawn was posted in the university by the Head of Department of the Medical Laboratory Science.

According to the list, ten students were placed on probation following their poor performance

The list shows that 41 students in year one were withdrawn while 31 were withdrawn in year two.

It further indicates that eight and two were placed on probation in year 3 and year 4 respectively.

Reacting to the development, the student union government (SUG) of the university, said credible reports indicate that a number of the affected students were yet to access, scrutinize, or conclusively authenticate some of the results upon which the  withdrawal decisions are purportedly founded.

In a statement signed by its president, Chika Abraham Nwuhuo, EBSU SUG advocated meticulous adherence to due process, administrative transparency, and comprehensive result verification prior to the ratification or public dissemination of any withdrawal list.

“The attention of the Students Union Government has been drawn to the recent withdrawal of certain students from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology, particularly within the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, ostensibly on the basis of unsatisfactory academic performance.

“While the Union acknowledges and upholds the prerogative of the University authorities to enforce policies that safeguard academic standards, discipline, and institutional excellence, we consider it imperative to articulate our profound concern regarding the prevailing circumstances.

“Credible reports indicate that a number of the affected students are yet to access, scrutinize, or conclusively authenticate some of the results upon which these withdrawal decisions are purportedly founded.

“In consideration of the foregoing, the Students Union Government earnestly advocates for meticulous adherence to due process, administrative transparency, and comprehensive result verification prior to the ratification or public dissemination of any withdrawal list.

“Decisions of such far reaching academic consequence must be anchored on procedural propriety, equity, and unimpeachable clarity.

“We therefore enjoin all concerned students to remain composed, law abiding, and reassured as constructive engagements are being undertaken through appropriate institutional channels.

“The Union remains resolute and unwavering in its mandate to protect the academic rights, dignity, and welfare of every student.

“The epoch of arbitrary measures or precipitate administrative actions is unequivocally behind us. Every student deserves justice, transparency, and fair consideration in matters pertaining to their academic progression”, he said.
