The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi State has revealed that the state recorded 15 road crashes between December last year and January this year.

The corps Sector Commander in the state, Daniel Nnamdi Asoanya stated this in Abakaliki, the state capital in an interview with journalists.

He said a total of 109 persons were involved in the crashes while 35 were injured with one death recorded.

He identified over speeding and dangerous driving as causes of the crashes.

We have been busy, if you go to most of the junctions, we have our deployments. In Ebonyi State, we have six unit commands and all the six unit commands, the staff are working.

*We closed down many other things except operations, everybody is on operation. We are on different junctions, critical areas where we think we there are regular incidences of road traffic crashes. We have been so busy on that.

“So far, it has been so good. We have not had so many cases of crashes. We only had 15 road crashes across the state within the yuletide period and that is December till date.

“Number of persons involved were 109 and number injured 35 and number of fatality, we only had one person who died, it was a male adult.

“The offences that have been responsible for most of the crashes are offences of over speeding, speed violation.

‘”A lot of construction is going on on the road from Enugu to Abakaliki and sometimes drivers who are mindless of these constructions that are going on, speed to the level that we have collision and running into stationery objects and all that

“We have the offence of dangerous driving and once you are over speeding, you will know that your driving has become dangerous.

“It is a common thing that vehicles at excess speed controls the driver and not the driver controlling the vehicle”, Asoanya said.

He identified Enugu/Abakaliki/Ogoja expressway which he described as international road as the most dangerous route.
