A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edda clan, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Chief Julius Ama Orji, has urged traditional rulers in the area to steer clear of what he described as reckless endorsements of aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The community leader also insisted that continued occupation of the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency seat by people from Afikpo Local Government Area was unfair to the people of Edda, stressing that it was now their turn to produce the next representative.
Orji, who stated this on Friday, while speaking to journalists, noted that equity and fairness demand that Edda should take the next shot at the Green Chamber.
He spoke against the backdrop of a purported endorsement of the incumbent member representing the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, Idu Igariwey, for a fourth term by monarchs from the Edda clan in December 2025.

The PDP stalwart urged traditional rulers to f==cus on their primary responsibilities of preserving culture and ensuring peace in their domains, rather than getting involved in partisan politics.
He said: “For the sake of equity and fairness, it’s the turn of the Edda people to produce the next lawmaker for the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency. We are not arguing about it with anybody or group of persons. This is how it should be, and the people of Afikpo equally know this.”
According to him, the people of Afikpo have held the position for about 20 years since the return to civilian rule in 1999, while Edda has only occupied the seat for eight years.
“If it were to be a property, both the people from Afikpo and Edda LGAs jointly own it. So, one is wondering why the Afikpo people should continue to push to go back after spending 20 years in the position,” Orji emphasised.
