The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has boasted that it remains the party to beat in the 2027 general election in the state and the entire country.

The party said its structures are very intact despite continued defections of key stakeholders and members of the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Caretaker Chairman of the party in the state Emmanuel Ekuma stated this in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, on Monday, at a press briefing after the committee’s meeting.

He said the party was gearing up to take over the political landscape of the state and Nigeria and described those who have left the party as political merchants.

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State is focused, undaunted and determined to deal with its present challenges and chart a new course for our great party.

“Many have thought PDP was on a path to self-destruction and extinction from the political arena of the country, but suffice it to say that our challenges have made us even stronger, indivisible and committed towards fulfilling our mission for Ebonyi State and the country at large.

“It is important to state that PDP is a party for all and sundry, as our umbrella is readily available to accommodate all intending members, bring back those who left the party and accept those who are willing to join hands with us to rescue our dear state and Nigeria at large.

“PDP is the party to beat in the 2027 general election, as the party at the state and national level is gearing up to not only move the party forward but to also take over the political landscape of the state and Nigeria as a whole.

“It is instructive to reaffirm that the structures of the PDP are alive in all the 171 electoral wards, 13 local government areas and at the state level in Ebonyi State,” Ekuma said.

He affirmed loyalty to the Abdulrahaman Mohammed-led National Working Committee of the party and Chidiebere Egwu South-East zonal leadership of the party and advised individuals who are parading themselves as members of the Ebonyi State leadership of the party, South-East zonal leadership of the party, or in whatever guise to desist from the act or face the wrath of the law.

The chairman directed those occupying the state secretariat of the party to immediately vacate the secretariat or face legal consequences.

“The Committee hereby advises all illegal occupants of the PDP secretariat across the state to immediately remove their personal belongings and vacate the premises within 48 hours of this broadcast. Failure to comply with this directive will attract lawful consequences.

“The State Committee reiterates its firm commitment to restoring unity, discipline and order within the party and calls on all loyal members to cooperate fully with the Committee in the collective interest of the party and the people of Ebonyi State.

“Let us use this opportunity to assure our teeming members in Ebonyi State that the PDP at the national level remains focused and ready to conduct outstanding congresses and our National Convention. Consequently, we reiterate that the PDP has not held its national convention as can be confirmed by INEC’s rejection of the November 2025 gathering of some members of the party in Ibadan, Oyo State.

“We call on our members and supporters to note that we are guided strictly by facts, law and compliance with constitutionalism. The claims that INEC had recognised the Ibadan gathering amounts to nothing more than media propaganda and should be disregarded as same was void ab initio. You cannot place something on top of nothing and expect it to stand,” Ekuma stated.
