The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has accused individuals it described as agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attacking and intimidating opposition supporters during preparations for the defection of a former APC member to the PDP.

Moses Eze-Idika, a National Ex-Officio of the PDP in Ebonyi State, made the allegation while speaking on ARISE News, claiming that the incident was part of efforts to suppress opposition activities in the state.

According to Eze-Idika, a former APC member, identified as Ifeanyi, was scheduled to publicly rejoin the PDP at an event attended by journalists from the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel.

He alleged that people travelling to the venue were attacked by thugs allegedly sponsored by APC agents, resulting in assaults on PDP members and damage to vehicles.

“A former APC member, Mr. Ifeanyi, was set to rejoin the PDP at a public event attended by journalists from the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Ebonyi State,” he said.

On their way to the venue, attendees were attacked by thugs sponsored by APC agents; several PDP members were assaulted, vehicles were vandalized, and an NTA reporter lost her camera,” he added.

Eze-Idika also claimed that an NTA reporter covering the event had her camera taken during the incident.

“The current government of Ebonyi State is doing everything it can to violently suppress the opposition,” Eze-Idika said on ARISE News.

The PDP chieftain said the alleged attack raised concerns about the ability of opposition parties and their supporters to freely participate in political activities in the state.

He also alleged that the incident was connected to the planned defection of the former APC member and accused supporters of the ruling party of using intimidation to discourage opposition activities.

The allegations could not be independently verified, and the material provided does not contain a response from the Ebonyi State Government or the APC to the claims.

The incident comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties increasingly raising concerns about the treatment of their members in various states.
