The Ebonyi State Government has ordered the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ben Odo, to complete the termination processes of all uncompleted 2km road projects in all the communities across the state.
This was the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting of the state.
At a joint press briefing in Abakaliki, the state capital, by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebeh, Commissioner for Justice, Dr Ben Odo, and Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Business Development, Chief Oguzor Offia-Nwali, the government said the processes for the termination of the uncompleted 2km road projects, must be completed before the close of work today.
Omebeh, who presided over the briefing, disclosed that special executive committees have been constituted for each local government area to ensure the completion of the projects before September this year after their termination.
He said Commissioner for Special Project, Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, has been directed to immediately take inventory of all the uncompleted 2km road projects for necessary actions.

Omebeh said the council had approved transmission of an executive bill to the state House of Assembly to regulate sale of metal and electrical scraps, house agents and collection of agent fees by professionals and non-professionals in the state.
“As a follow-up to state government’s earlier position and preparedness to regulate the sale of metal and electrical scraps, House Rents and Collection of Agent fees by Professionals and non-professionals in Ebonyi State, and other matters connected, thereto, EXCO approved the transmission of the bill to Ebonyi State House of Assembly (EBHA) for proper legislation.
“Recall that following the State Government’s earlier resolve to tame activities of House Agents, which has invariably led to exorbitant house rents, particularly in the state capital, EXCO had proposed an Executive Council Bill to regulate Landlord, Tenant rents and fees charged by House Agents in the state.
“With this law, it will be illegal for any Agent to collect a fee exceeding 2% of the total percentage of the required rent across the state.This is to ensure that all qualified and registered Agents act within the law to cushion the hardship arbitrary agent-charges have met on the citizens.
“In the same vein, EXCO had proposed an EXCO bill tagged a Bill For a Law to regulate the sale of metal and electrical scraps in Ebonyi State and other related matters.
“The bill, when churned into law with the current proposed legislative action, is expected to regulate the buying, selling, possession, transportation, and disposal of metal and electrical scraps in Ebonyi State. This is to avoid vandalism, environmental degradation, and promotion of public safety; and for related matters”, he said.
