Senator representing Ebonyi Central in the National Assembly, Chief Obinna Ogba, yesterday carpeted his party, the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), for mismanaging what he described as a golden opportunity to reclaim Ebonyi State in the just concluded general elections.

He pointedly berated the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for showing poor leadership in managing the internal crises in the party, which he said resulted in the party losing both the presidency and the governoship of Ebonyi State.

The lawmaker  who contested the governorship ticket of the party in the state, but lost to his rival, Ifeanyi Odii, argued that the party deservedly lost both presidential and Ebonyi governorship elections.

He stated this at a press conference in his Nkalagu country home, yesterday. He claimed that the party lost the Ebonyi gubernatorial election because it handed the ticket to Governor Dave Umahi’s cousin, in complete negation of the existing power rotation in the state.

Ogba called on the people of Ebonyi State to give maximum support to the governor-elect,  Chief Francis Nwifuru as he claimed his party, the PDP lost the state because it gave the governorship ticket to a wrong person. He said he was proud to have joined other well-meaning Ebonyians to support the APC candidate to win the election.

He also called for the suspension of the party’s NWC members for mismanaging issues in the state.

“The national chairman lost his polling booth ward, local government area and state, and the same thing applied to all the conspirators who offered tickets to whoever understood their language,’’ he said.

Reacting, Ebonyi State chapter of the party accused Ogba of twisting the narratives to explain his anti-party activities and support for the APC candidate.

Spokesman of the party, Nwoba Chika, in a statement alleged that Ogba and some leaders of the party in the state blocked the party from zoning the governorship ticket to Ebonyi North because he (Ogba) had plans to contest the ticket.

“ We wouldn’t want to talk about winning or losing of our party, the PDP at the polls since our petitions are already in the tribunals. The outcome of the petitions will best say how mellifluous or otherwise our performance was at the polls,” Nwoba said.
