Ebonyi N150m campaign billboard, poster fees undemocratic, demonic -PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has described the N150 million and other fees for campaign billboards and posters in Ebonyi State as approved by the state House of Assembly as unwarranted, undemocratic, and demonic, stressing that the bill passed by the assembly, which stipulates the fees, can’t stand.

National Ex-officio of the party in the state, Moses Idika, said the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has already stated clearly that such laws are inconsistent with extant laws on adverting in the country.

“I understand that the APC government in Ebonyi State is jittery over its imminent loss at the polls in 2027, so they are curating all manner of anti-democratic machinations to muzzle opposition in the state, but the incompetence and pervasive hunger and poverty in the state will judge them at the polls.

“Already, the people of Ebonyi State have made up their mind not to reinforce failure and backwardness; the people are determined to start a new beginning with leaders that actually understand governance and prepared to work for the people.

“Everyone can see the massive economic wasteland that Ebonyi has become, so no amount of illegal imposition of levies will stop the people from voting for progress and development, the very things the current government is unable to offer the people.

“Let APC politicians in Ebonyi State be ready to pay and show the receipt of their payment into the state coffers. We challenge Ebonyi State government to publish the dedicated account of Ebonyi State Government where the monies will be paid into, so that the payments will be tracked in the interest of the integrity of the system and accountability”, Idika said in a statement.
