The Traditional Ruler of the Nsokkara Autonomous Community, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Festus Okonkwo, has disbanded the leadership of Acharaukwu Development Union (ADU) Women Wing for banishing a widow, Mrs. Njideka Ngwuta, from the community.
Okonkwo, who spoke to some journalists after the submission of the dissolution order to the Office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, said the action of the women group contradicted Section 002 of 2018 Ebonyi State law Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP LAW).
ADU Women Development Union had ostracised Mrs Njideka Ngwuta and handed her the symbolic ‘box of matches’ for refusing to attend this year’s August meeting in one of their leaders’ private homes.

The traditional ruler, who visibly frowned at the injustice meted on the indigent widow, ordered that Mrs Njideka Ngwuta should, as a matter of urgency, return to her matrimonial home and reunite with her children and loved ones, adding that further threat to her life shall be viewed and visited with the full weight of the law of Ebonyi State and Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He emphasised that the barbaric act was against the culture, custom, and traditions of Nsokkara and Ezza Ezekuna people, noting he is very annoyed with the leadership of the women for bluntly and flagrantly refusing to honour his invitation when he got the wind of the matter.
“The banishment, Ostracisation, harassment, and the inhuman treatment meted against Mrs Njideka is a violent act which has caused her physical and emotional trauma, and is condemned in its entirety as it is an action perpetrated against her fundamental human rights and equally violates the provisions of the Ebonyi State Violence Against Persons prohibition No.002 of 2018 (VAPP LAW)”, he said.
The monarch informed that the palace has initiated an in-depth investigation to unravel the sponsors of the barbaric and heinous act in the community as culprits will be made public in due course.
