The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Land and Survey, Dr Mathew Nwobasi, has identified the rapid issuance of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to property owners as one of the landmark achievements of the present administration in the State.

He said the strategy was aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business in the state.

“When we came on board, the ministry was not printing C of O because there was a breakdown in the system but through the intervention of the state governor, we have been printing the document without experiencing problems.

“Following government effort to provide the citizenry with impressive service, the responsibility of signing C of O being the duty of the state governor as noticed in the past administration has been delegated to me,” he said.

The Commissioner explained that the computerization of the system has made it possible for applicants to collect the documents within 14 working days for government allocation and three weeks for private land.

He further disclosed government’s intention to go full digitalization where all the lands in the State would be marked in such a way that one could search for any land with android phone or laptop at the comfort of his home rather than visiting the ministry. He stated this would solve the problem of land encroachment and grabbing permanently.

Nwobasi, who said that ministry had resolved numerous land disputes on their merits, also revealed plans of establishing town planning authority the three senatorial districts in order to decentralise urbanisation and develop other parts of the state.

The commissioner further mentioned government’s readiness to revoke undeveloped plots presently serving as criminal hideouts and haven for rats and reptiles in Abakaliki, stressing that such undeveloped land allocated to some persons during the first military administration of the state would be revoked and given to the people that were ready to make use of them.
