Ebonyi killings: Nwifuru orders destruction of shrines, deities in Amasiri

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has ordered destruction of shrines and deities in Amasiri, Afikpo Local Government Area of the state.

The people of Amasiri, their neighbouring communities; Akpoha and Okporojo, Oso Edda have been at war for decades with lives lost and property worth billions of naira destroyed.

The crisis escalated on January this year when suspected warlords beheaded three persons in Okporojo and one person in Akpoha community which led to the declaration of curfew in Amasiri by the governor and shutting down all activities in the community.

I’m an expanded security council meeting on Friday at the banquet hall, old government house, Abakaliki the state capital, Nwifuru said the curfew imposed on Amasiri should remain until the severed heads of those killed in the war are recoverd.

The governor constituted a 19 – Member Committee to carry out the demarcation of the disputed boundary between Okporojo and Amasiri Communities.

He said the demarcation has become expedient since the two parties had signed an agreement to that effect.

” The security council has also directed that all the shrines and deities in Amasiri clan be destroyed and stakeholders of the area are under obligation to show the State Government and security agencies the locations of the shrines” the governor said.

The expanded Security meeting was attended by heads of security agencies , Traditional Rulers, Elder’s Council and stakeholders of Okporojo, Amasiri , Akpoha and Afikpo
