Ebonyi guber poll: Umahi trounces Ogbuoji

The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Ebonyi Governor, Chief David Umahi, has been declared winner of the 2019 governorship election in the state.

He defeated 36 other candidates of other political parties including the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, in the 13 local government areas of the state with wide margin.

Declaring the results at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abakaliki, the state capital, the State Collation Officer, Professor Frank Chukwuemeka Eze, said the PDP won the highest total valid votes cast.

Prof. Eze, who is the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), said Umahi polled 393,043 to defeat Ogbuoji, who got only 81,703 votes.

He gave the total number of registered voters in the state for the election as 1,432,528 while a total of 497,291 voters were accredited for the poll.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, the governor promised to consolidate on what he tagged ‘aggressive’ infrastructural, human development and aggressive industrialization of the state, saying they’re the  tripod on which his administration stands.
