Leaders of Ngwogwo Community in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have petitioned security agencies in the state, accusing Emmanuel Ogbonna Aja, the chairman of the local government area of trying to instigate a crisis by illegally removing Ngara as chairman of Ngwogwo Community Development Union (NCDU) before the expiration of his three years tenure.
The leaders who want security agencies to wade into the crisis, included: Paul Ngara Chairman, Ngwogwo Community Development Union (NCDU), Benjamin Makwe, Secretary, Chief Donatus Ugwute, Elder Dennis Chukwu, Chairman of Elders’ Forum, Ajah Sorochi Ebube, Youth President, Ovia Maduka, and Ifeanyichukwu Ajah, a Youth leader in Amachara hamlet.
They stated that Ngara was elected into the position in line with the constitution of the community on July 21, 2021, at an election supervised by officials of the state government, and that his tenure would expire on July 21, 2024.
The community stated that the local government chairman has gone ahead to schedule an election for a new community leader for Saturday, February 17, 2024, before the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent leader and in defiance of a directive by the Ebonyi State Ministry in charge of Conflict Resolution, which had previously mediated in the dispute and directed both parties to allow peace reign and maintain the status quo.
They appealed to security agencies, especially the Police to wade into the matter before it would degenerate to something else.
