Ishinkwo Autonomous Community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has denied any involvement in the death of some people killed in the early hours of June 6, 2023.
In a statement by its Director, Legal and Media, Innocent D. Elum, the community said the allegation, which was published in some media, was wrong and done to cause problems.
The statement reads: “We in Ishinkwo Autonomous Community categorically deny the wrongful allegation and state as follows: That we know nothing about the unfortunate development; that the attack did not take place in our territory and cannot, therefore, be linked to us by any reasonable stretch of imagination.
“That Abaomege warriors had verifiably launched similar attacks on travellers a number of times in the past and turned around to accuse us of being responsible, but were ultimately found out by investigations; that the statement credited to the Ebonyi Police Command’s spokesperson, that “Ishinkwo warriors” were responsible for the attacks, was a figment of his own imagination.
“That as a spokesperson of a national security institution, he should be responsible with his utterances and properly investigate information before taking same to public domain; that we are a peace-loving people with abiding faith in the capacity of the new Ebonyi State government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, to continue from where the past administration stopped in the quest to end the agelong land dispute between us and the Abaomege people.
“That we respectfully call on the Ebonyi State governor to expedite the process of demarcating the disputed land, as that is the silver bullet that will eternally end the dispute.”
