Ebonyi ADC: Parallel congresses produce two chairmen

From Uchenna Inya, Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the weekend produced two state chairmen in parallel congresses.

While one faction produced a former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Chief Silas Onu, as chairman, another faction produced a former Special Assistant in the past administration in the state, Mrs Adibe Jenifer, as its own chairman.

The parallel congresses were held at different locations in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Onu, in his speech after his faction’s congress, described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state as an opposition party because of its style of governance.

He accused the ruling party of poor governance and mismanagement of resources and boasted that the ADC would field credible candidates to contest and win elective positions in the next general elections.

Onu, who was the Ebonyi South senatorial candidate of the PDP during a by-election after the former governor of the state, David Umahi, who won the 2023 senatorial seat of the zone, resigned for a ministerial position, assured ADC members of an open-door policy, inclusiveness, and internal democracy to ensure the party’s victory in the 2027 general election.

Adibe, on her part, thanked party faithful for participating in the congress.

She commended party members for supporting her and assured that she would work harder to ensure that the ADC wins the state in 2027.
