First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has distributed empowerment items to 500 indigent women in Ebonyi State.
The items include deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, power generators and industrial grinding machines to support the beneficiaries in starting new businesses or improving their existing enterprises.
Presenting the items, the wife of the President, who was represented by the wife of the state governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, said the gesture was also ongoing simultaneously in Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo states.
She disclosed that the programme was made possible through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Sustainable Development Goals.
Tinubu stated that by the end of the nationwide rollout of the initiative, 18,000 women would have been empowered across the country, with 500 beneficiaries selected from each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“This presentation is taking place across the five states of the zone simultaneously.
“This program has been made possible through the office of the SSA to the President on sustainable development goals.

“The initiative was first launched in Abuja for the North Central zone on the February 2025, followed by the distribution of empowerment items in the South South zone on 25th April, 2026 and the South West zone on the 23rd August, 2025.
“By the end of the nationwide roll out of this initiative, 18,000 women would have been empowered across the country with 500 beneficiaries selected from each state and FCT”, she said.
She said the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Tinubu in recognising the critical role women play in nation-building.
She encouraged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously to actualise the objective.
Representative of the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr Ify Ukaegbu, warned the beneficiaries against selling the items.
She said the gesture was aimed at expanding economic opportunities for indigent and vulnerable women in the country.
