The police in Ebonyi State have arrested two persons for allegedly kidnapping a six-year-old girl and demanding N50,000,000 for the child’s release.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement in Abakaliki, the state capital.
He identified the two suspects as Okafor Ofubuike (23 years) and Chisom Daniel (23 years).
Ukandu said the suspects abducted the child from her mother’s shop after posing as customers and took her to their hideout, where they demanded N50,000,000 before they would release her.
“Ebonyi State Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in the New Year with the successful rescue of a kidnapped child.

“On 6th January 2026, one Mrs. Obasi Daberechi reported that her six-year-old daughter was abducted from her shop at Onuebonyi, Abakaliki.
“The suspects, who posed as customers, subsequently demanded a ransom of fifty million naira (₦50,000,000) for the child’s release.
“Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, through painstaking and diligent investigation, traced the kidnappers to their hideout at Agogboriga Layout, Abakaliki. The child was rescued unhurt.
“Two male suspects, namely Okafor Ofubuike (23 years) and Chisom Daniel (23 years), were arrested in connection with the kidnapping.
“They are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the PPRO said.
