The General Overseer of God’s Firmament Covenant Ministry (GFCM), Prophet Remigius Christian Echewodo, has described Easter as one of the chief tenets of the Christian faith.
He made the description during his easter message at FESTAC town, Lagos on Sunday.
Echewodo explained that for those who trust in Jesus’s death and resurrection, “death is swallowed up in victory and that God has given believers “a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
According to him, through faith in the working of God, those who follow Jesus are spiritually resurrected with him , so that they may walk in a new way of life and receive eternal salvation, and can hope to be physically resurrected to dwell with him in the Kingdom of Heaven.
“The resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday is the cornerstone of the Christian faith, signifying the fulfilment of God’s plan for redemption and offering believers the promise of eternal life. It is a day of immense joy and hope, as Christians celebrate the victory of light over darkness, life over death, and the triumph of God’s love for humanity.
“Easter Sunday serves as a profound reminder of the transformative power of faith and the enduring message of hope that resonates throughout the ages.”
He also said that Easter is considered the most important and joyful celebration in the Christian liturgical calendar, and a time for Christians to reflect on the significance of Jesus’ sacrifice, and the promise of eternal life.
“The resurrection is seen as a central doctrine of Christianity, emphasizing the hope and redemption offered through faith in Jesus Christ.”
Echewodo further explained that the significance of Easter is Jesus Christ’s triumph over death, and his resurrection means the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him.
“The purpose of Easter also means the full confirmation of all that Jesus taught and preached during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead or simply died, and not been resurrected, he would have been thought of as just another teacher or prophet. “However, his resurrection rebuked all that and provided final and undeniable proof that he was the Son of God and that he had overcome death once and for all.”
He informed that Easter is just as important today for everyone, as it was 1,800 years ago in the early church.
“Easter is so important because it represents that Jesus saved us from our sins by dying and rising again, after three days.
“So, this Easter, instead of just accepting it as another day, or welcoming the break from the work week, recognize Easter for what it is and celebrate accordingly.
“We should set aside fanciful notions of the celebration and focus on the truth of Easter, the truth of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
Echewodo stated that the Easter period is a reminder of the truth behind Christianity.
“Thank God for sending his son to die for our sins, so that we may have eternal life in him.”
