The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has granted the request of three union leaders on the need to suspend enforcement of the e-call-up system on the Lekki-Epe corridor.
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), a branch of NUPENG, had appealed to the ministry to put on hold the commencement of the new system.
This, they said, was to allow them have further engagement with their members preparatory to the implementation.
Rising from a meeting recently, the Ministry of Transportation yielded to the request of the unions.
The union leaders had promised to ensure parking compliance by their members while the engagement meetings are on-going, even as the ministry is expected enforce the rules in the event of violation of the promise
All parties were in agreement regarding the importance of the e-call up system as the best solution for managing trucks movement along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi; the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olawale Musa; and leaders of NUPENG), PMAN, NARTO, and PTD.
