DSS, security agents arrest top IPOB commander in Ebonyi, kill scores of terrorists in Niger, others

The Department of State Security Services(DSS), working in conjunction with the military and other security agencies have arrested a top commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), in Ebonyi State.

The suspect(names withheld), was  in possession of 600 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition and other dangerous weapons at the time of his arrest.

The DSS operatives were also said to have killed scores of Boko Haram terrorists fighters in Niger State and recovered 37,000 litres of stolen crude.

A top security source who spoke  on the condition of anonymity,said the IPOB commander, who has been on the wanted list of the DSS, was arrested in a joint operation with other security  agencies.

The source said that the suspect was undergoing interrogation in the DSS  custody.

The source said that the arrested IPOB commander would be paraded after investigation.

The source, while assuring that insecurity would  soon be a thing of the past, said the DSS was set to tackle increasing threats to national security in collaboration with sister agencies and would not allow terrorists and other miscreants to cause mayhem in the country.

According to the  source,“On September 19, 2024, a combined team of the DSS and the military apprehended a high profile commander of the IPOB. The arrest followed intelligence which confirmed his active involvement in the coordination of IPOB activities in Ebonyi State. The arrested commander had recruited several mercenaries in preparation for further attacks in the state,”.

The source who also spoke on the killing of scores of terrorists in Niger State, said the DSS, based on credible intelligence, collaborated with the Nigeria  Air Force(NAF), and sister agencies to descend on Boko Haram terrorists and bandits, who had jointly attacked Bassa-Kukoki Village in Allawa district of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State on Wednesday.

The source said that while scores of the terrorists and bandits were killed in the operation, three indegenes of the community, lost their lives to fleeing bandits.

He said that  no personnel of the security agencies was killed during the operation.

On the fight against oil theft, he  said DSS operatives attached  to Delta State Command, intercepted a wooden barge containing about 37,000 barrels of crude oil.
