DSS kills 2 suspected ESN commanders during raid

Sustained counter-insurgency operations led by the Department of State Services (DSS), according to security sources, have left the camps of the Eastern Security Network in parts of Imo State currently in disarray.

Security information made available to journalists disclosed that joint forces have carried out a series of intelligence-driven offensives in the last one month which has reduced violent incidents and restored relative calm in several communities.

Among those allegedly killed during separate raids were two commanders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), identified as Solomon Akarachukwu Alisiobi, also known as “Maddox”, and Chima Azubuogu, alias “Akajiofor”.

Officials said the raids targeted camps linked to suspected ESN leaders, Ifeanyi Okorienta-Eze, popularly called “Gentle de Yahoo”, and Monday Oluchi Ogu, also known as “B44”.

The DSS in Imo State has been cited by security stakeholders as providing the intelligence, coordination, and operational leadership for many of the joint operations with other agencies.

Security sources said the strikes have disrupted the network’s command structure, depleted its fighting strength, and forced surviving members to scatter, making coordinated attacks more difficult.

Residents in affected areas have commended the quiet but persistent efforts of the DSS and other security agencies. Many said the improved security has allowed social and economic activities to resume in communities that were previously tense.

Community members, however, urged security forces to maintain pressure until all criminal elements are dismantled and lasting peace is restored across the state.
