DSS finally hands over 106 freed Chibok girls to FG

… FG hires 20 teachers for girls’ education

The Department of State Service (DSS), on Tuesday, formally handed over a total of 106 freed Chibok girls to the Federal Government.

The hand over, which took place at the National Center for Women Development(NCWD), Abuja, was witnessed by a large crowd as residents of the Federal Capital Territory, trooped to the center to catch a glimpse of the girls who were abducted from their school hostel by Boko Haram terrorists on April 14, 2014.

Security personnel detailed to maintain law and order at the venue found it difficult to control the surging crowd who turned out in their thousands to catch a glimpse of the girls.

Similarly, journalists who wanted to interview the girls on what their experiences was like while in the captive of the terrorists were prevented from doing so by security personnel.

The girls,who were brought into the venue, in buses, were very excited and overjoyed as they sang, danced  and smiled all the way to the venue of the meeting.

Apparently because of the tumultuous crowd, journalists were later asked vacate the hall venue of the event.

However, camera men and photographers were allowed to stay behind.

The girls were handed over to government by the Director Medical Service DSS , Mrs. Anne Okoroafor.

Receiving the girls on behalf of the Federal Government, Minister of women affairs, Jumai  Alhasssan, while noting that the girls  would now be residing at the rehabilitation center located at the Women Development Center,  said that the girls are now medically and psychologically fit and in stable condition after undergoing the necessary medical check-ups at the DSS facility.

The minister also maintained that 20 teachers have been recruited to take care of the girls’ education which is aimed at helping them to catch-up with their academic programmes.

“We have also engaged the service of two doctors and in house nurses who will handle any complain of the girls and incase of any serious situation.”
