Drogba, Etoo, Zidane, Abedi Pele to storm Abuja

World Soccer legends, comprising Abedi Pele, Didier Drogba, Samuel Etoo, and Zinedine Zidane, in addition to Nigeria ex-internationals like Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, and Nwankwo Kanu would be part of the former football legends storming Nigeria for an international Charity football match for Cancer awareness campaign.

The organisers of the tournament told newsmen that the world soccer legends will partner Clinix Healthcare Limited and CMD Clinic Healthcare in fighting the scourge of the dreaded disease in the country.

National Coordinator of the charity match, Jacob Onu, made the disclosure in a statement issued after a courtesy visit on the Clinix Healthcare led by Pastor Ebere Peter Nwosu on Thursday in Lagos.

It will be recalls that the charity football match was scheduled to hold at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja later in the year.

The Charity football match, according to the organisers, is in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Onu also informed the organisation that the goal of the event was to raise funds to combat the heinous pandemic ravaging the society called cancer, using the instrumentality of football.

He further noted that in order to key into President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and great vision of combating health challenges, the World Soccer Legends are desirous of seeking a partnership with critical sector in the healthcare eco-system.

“This war against cancer we believe is not just for the Federal Ministry of Health, but for all well-meaning Nigerians who are in good health condition in our rural and urban areas to join hands together in combating the scourge ”

“It is this singular commitment that has prompted us to combine forces to fight this menace of cancer spreading in Nigeria by using the instrumentality of football to raise funds for awareness, treatment, and research purposes,” he noted.

Speaking further, Onu assured that; “football Legends like Abedi Pele, Drogba, Etoo, Zidane, Okocha, Amokachi, and Kanu, among several others international ex-players are expected at the charity match.”

He disclosed that the Main Organising Committee (MOC) is in contact with the legends who are also ready to be in Nigeria.

Responding, Pastor Ebere Nwosu assured the organisers of their total support and call on all well-meaning Nigerians to rally round in kicking cancer out of the country.
